DittoScout

What we promise, and what we do not

These terms cover using DittoScout. They are written to be read once and understood, rather than to be impressive.

What DittoScout is

DittoScout is a market research tool. It searches app markets, the web and public code for products similar to an idea you describe, compares their features, mines their reviews, and produces a report with scores, a verdict and sources.

It is not investment advice, legal advice, or a substitute for talking to the people you intend to sell to.

Who can use DittoScout

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to create an account, buy credits or subscribe. If you use DittoScout on behalf of a company, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

What DittoScout does not guarantee

  • We do not guarantee that every competing product has been found. Search coverage is limited by what our providers index and return, which is why every report carries an Evidence Confidence score and says when coverage was incomplete.
  • We do not guarantee that a product you build will succeed, earn revenue, or take market share. No report should be read as a prediction of any of those.
  • We do not guarantee that third-party estimates — download counts, revenue figures and similar — are accurate. They are labelled ESTIMATED because they are somebody else’s estimate, not our measurement.
  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Providers fail, and when they do a run may return fewer sources or fail outright.

Your ideas stay yours

You keep ownership of the ideas you describe and everything you write into DittoScout. You give us permission to process that text for one purpose: running the analysis you asked for, storing the results in your account, and showing them back to you. Nothing in these terms lets us publish your idea or use it as a public example. The privacy page sets out the detail.

Using the service responsibly

  • Do not submit confidential information belonging to someone else that you have no right to share.
  • Do not resell, redistribute or republish report contents as a data product. Reports are for your own decisions and for the people you are making them with — cofounders, clients, colleagues, investors.
  • Do not attempt to extract our underlying source data in bulk, or run automated traffic against the product outside the interfaces we provide.
  • Do not use DittoScout to build a directly competing market-research product.

Accounts that break these rules can be suspended. Where the breach was accidental, we would rather tell you about it than close the account.

Credits, subscriptions and billing

  • One-time purchased credits do not expire.
  • Subscription credits arrive each billing period and roll over for a limited number of periods, shown on the pricing page. They stop arriving when the subscription ends.
  • Cancelling a subscription keeps any credits you purchased outright. It does not refund the current period.
  • Prices can change. A change never applies retroactively to credits you have already bought.

Refunds

If a Scout fails, produces a broken report, or is charged twice, the credit goes back to your wallet and we will look at the run. That is a system failure and it is on us.

We do not refund a completed report because you disagreed with its conclusion. The conclusion is the thing you bought, along with the evidence under it — including a conclusion that says the market is crowded, or that you should validate before building. A report that tells you not to build is doing its job.

Third-party sources

Reports link to store listings, product sites, repositories and review sources rather than reproducing them wholesale. Those sources belong to their owners and are governed by their own terms. Retrieved content is used as evidence about the product being analysed and nothing else.

Changes to the service

Features will be added, changed and occasionally removed. If we remove something you are relying on, we will say so before it goes. If we discontinue the service entirely, you will have time to export your reports and we will refund unused purchased credits.

Limits of responsibility

You are responsible for the decisions you make after reading a report. DittoScout is responsible for running the investigation it describes, labelling its evidence honestly, and not inventing competitors. Where something goes wrong on our side, our responsibility is limited to what you paid us for the affected research.

Ending your account

You can close your account at any time from your settings. Closing it deletes your ideas, reports and scores, cancels any active subscription immediately without refunding the current period, and forfeits any remaining credits, so export first if you want to keep something. Deleting a single idea is also permanent, and deletes its Scouts and reports with it.
