DittoScout

Has your app idea already been built?

DittoScout searches the market, finds the closest competitors, shows what their customers want, and reveals where the opportunity is still open.

The more specific the description, the closer the competitor matches.

A Ditto Score of 82 with a Gap Score of 88 reads as: yes, similar products exist, and meaningful opportunities remain. Evidence Confidence of 74 says how much of the market this run actually managed to see.

Real competitors. Feature-level comparisons. Customer pain points. Evidence-backed gaps.

Don't ask AI for an opinion. Scout the market.

General AI can give you an opinion in seconds. DittoScout performs a repeatable market investigation and hands you the dataset behind it.

An opinion

  • Arrives as one answer, shaped by how you asked.
  • Names products from memory, with nothing to open.
  • Cannot tell you where it looked or what it missed.
  • Comes out differently if you ask again tomorrow.

A DittoScout report

  • Runs the same investigation every time.
  • Lists only products a search provider actually returned.
  • Links the source behind each claim.
  • States how much of the market it managed to see.

Has someone already built this?

Describe the idea once. DittoScout searches app stores, the web and public code for direct, near and adjacent competitors, then ranks them by how closely they match what you described.

The Closest Ditto is the single nearest product, with its overlaps, its differences, its pricing where that is verified, and the sources behind all of it. The Ditto Score summarises the whole set into one transparent 0–100 number.

GapMap: what the competitors are missing

Your intended features across every competitor found, with the honest four-state answer for each cell. The Gap Score turns that into a measure of how much room is still open.

A high Ditto Score and a high Gap Score can coexist. Crowded is not the same as closed.

  • ✓ = supported by a source
  • P = partly supported, narrower than the idea describes
  • – = not found in the evidence reviewed
  • ? = not enough evidence either way

A dash records what this run’s sources showed, not what a product can do. It is never evidence that the feature is absent.

  • Slow-month forecast

    Missing everywhereVERIFIED

No product in the set projects income forward. Every one of them reports what has already happened.

  • Set-aside sized by forecast, not by fixed percentage

    Underserved combinationINFERRED

Two products move money automatically, but always at a flat rate the user picks once. Reviews repeatedly describe the flat rate as wrong in both directions.

What customers keep asking for

Review Intelligence clusters competitor reviews at scale into repeated themes — missing features, reliability, price, support, onboarding, platform gaps, integrations and privacy — instead of summarising five reviews.

The clusters that repeat become a list of things customers are already asking someone to build.

4,210 reviews analysed across 4 competitors, 2025-09-01 to 2026-08-12. Provider: fixture_reviews.

  • Tells me about last month, not next month

    604 reviews · 14.3%

Reviewers describe accurate history and no help anticipating a quiet month, which is when the shortfall actually hurts.

Lead with a forward projection and let the set-aside follow from it rather than from a fixed percentage.

  • The fixed percentage is always wrong

    471 reviews · 11.2%

Users set one percentage and then either starve their spending account or under-save across a year of uneven work.

Recalculate the rate from actual year-to-date income and bracket thresholds.

  • Bank connection keeps dropping

    388 reviews · 9.2%

Reconnection prompts appear often enough that reviewers stop trusting the balance shown.

Treat connection health as a first-class surface with an honest last-synced state.

Every claim carries its label

Market facts, third-party estimates and model inference never get mixed together. Each one is labelled, and each one lists the sources it came from.

  • VERIFIED

directly supported by source or provider data.

  • ESTIMATED

    a third-party estimate, not a measured fact.

  • INFERRED

a model or rule interpretation of the evidence.

No hallucinated competitors

A product cannot enter a report without a real name, a real URL or store identifier, and a source record. Models may interpret products a provider found. They are never allowed to invent one.

Evidence Confidence

Never confuse “we found nothing” with “nothing exists.” Every report scores how much of the market the run actually saw, and a low-confidence run says so plainly.

Source-first reporting

Important claims come with the sources behind them, listed with the provider and the date they were retrieved.

Observed Market Evidence

Ratings, review counts, pricing, app age and update activity, plus download and revenue estimates where a licensed provider supplies them — always labelled as estimates.

Scout Verdict, with the reasons attached

One outcome — BUILD, BUILD DIFFERENT, VALIDATE FIRST, CROWDED or SKIP — plus the rule that produced it and the reasons behind it. A verdict you can argue with is worth more than one you have to trust.

BUILD DIFFERENT

COMPETITIVE MARKET
  • The core set-aside behaviour is already offered by six products above the match threshold.
  • Reviews of those products repeat the same two unmet needs: forecasting a slow month and handing clean numbers to an accountant.
  • Nothing found combines invoice capture, a set-aside rule and a forward-looking cash warning in one product.

Greenfield vs Dead Zone

Few competitors is not automatically good news. Low competition with meaningful demand evidence, visible workarounds and a feasible build is a GREENFIELD. Low competition with weak demand, little discussion and no willingness-to-pay signals is a DEAD ZONE. The report says which one it found, and why.

Research that stays useful

A Scout is not a one-off answer. It becomes a record you can return to, compare against and keep watching.

  • ScoutWatch

DittoScout re-checks the market and tells you when a close competitor appears, a missing feature ships, pricing moves, a major competitor disappears, or a score changes materially.

  • What changed since my last Scout?

New and removed competitors, added features, pricing and rating changes, new complaint clusters, and whether the verdict itself moved.

  • Idea Portfolio

Ditto Score, Gap Score, Evidence Confidence, build difficulty, observed demand, monetization opportunity and verdict, compared across everything you have scouted.

  • BuildRank

Saved ideas ranked by opportunity against competition and effort, so “of the twelve ideas I have saved, which one should I investigate first?” has an answer.

  • Exportable reports

Paid reports export as PDF for cofounder decisions, product reviews, client work and investor conversations. CSV competitor matrices follow.

What you get out of one Scout

  • Know if your app already exists before you build it.
  • Find competitors that use completely different names and wording.
  • See exactly which features overlap — and which ones are still missing.
  • Mine competitor reviews to discover what customers keep asking for.
  • Separate market facts, third-party estimates, and AI inference.
  • Get a Ditto Score, Gap Score, and Evidence Confidence instead of a vague opinion.
  • See the evidence behind the recommendation.
  • Know whether low competition is a greenfield opportunity or a dead zone.
  • Compare all your app ideas and see which deserves attention first.
  • Get alerted when somebody launches something similar after your initial research.
  • See what changed since your last market scan.
  • Turn hours of scattered market research into one repeatable report.

DittoScout reports what its sources show. It cannot promise that every product on earth has been found, and it never claims a product will succeed.
